Update, 7-29-2009: Here are a couple more pictures, one of George, taken from that same evening at the Tin Star last August when he was playing with Stirling O'Neil's band.

  1. I was the bass player with George in the Judds band for many years and a great friend. I hope you guys out there in NM were able to enjoy his being as much as we did here in Nashville. Please post some more photos of him if you have any.
    Thanks so much,

  2. I found this message board by Googling "George Honea." I'm a high school classmate & bandmate of George's from Lufkin, Texas. I no longer live there, but I often read the newspaper online. I just came across the obituary for George and I am completely stunned. He was truly one of the good guys. In high school, some of us girls called him "Honea Bear" because he was such a cutie! He'd just blush and smile! If anyone would like to sign the Guest Book or leave a message for the family, you can access it by going to www.lufkindailynews.com and clicking on "obits."

  4. George(and D. Steinmeyer) auditioned me with the Airmen Of Note in the '80s before he got out. He did all he could(along with Tim Eyermann) to help me with the difficult sight-reading I had to do. He was truly a class-act. I never got the gig but I still remember his kindness towards me. His playing was so unique in that he made simple techniques sound so sophisticated and hip. I loved his approach and his choice of the ride cymbal for a large ensemble. In my opinion, he was one of the finest drummers the NOTE ever had. I am devastated and saddened beyond what words can express. Thank You George, from the bottom of my heart and R.I.P. my brother.
